HISTORY
Early records dating from 1862 establish Dufur has a historic heritage worth preserving. Laid to rest in the cemetery are early pioneer families who first arrived in the mid1800's. The cemetery has been in continuous use through the decades to the present time. The well cared for resting place is maintained by local families and volunteers. Insightful headstone inscriptions provide a treasure trove of information not only to genealogists, but for generations of families who return to pay respects to grandparents, parents, siblings, extended family and friends. The Rebekah Lodge deeded the cemetery to the community of Dufur on November 18, 1975 and it then became known as the Dufur Community Cemetery, Inc.

CEMETERY BOARD
An all volunteer board oversees the business and the upkeep of the cemetery. Currently serving on the board is Darlien France, Director; Darrell France, Secretary; with members Ruth Alexander and Nikki Reffitt, Ex-officio board members also include Jim and Cathy Cantrell, Jack Frakes, and Jennifer Frey. Eligibility to serve on the board requires the individual to pass a background check done by the Oregon Mortuary and Cemetery Board. This Oregon Board audits the cemetery to ensure we are in compliance with state law. It is the cemetery board's intent to continue to maintain and make improvements to the cemetery when possible.
